Belgium: CGSP/ACOD public-services strike on Monday 12 October 2026 (trains, trams and buses)

The socialist public-services union CGSP/ACOD has called its members in all public services to strike on Monday 12 October 2026, two days before the federal government's policy statement, to weigh on the budget talks: a €10 billion savings plan, pension reform and a cap on civil servants' sick leave.

What to expect: the union says SNCB/NMBS trains, STIB/MIVB, De Lijn and TEC services may be disrupted, alongside prisons, fire services and local administrations. Only one of the three unions is striking — the Christian union CSC/ACV will hold awareness actions instead and the liberal SLFP/VSOA has not called a strike — so expect a partial service rather than a shutdown, as on previous CGSP-only strike days. SNCB will publish an alternative timetable the day before if a strike notice is filed with HR Rail; STIB, De Lijn and TEC post service levels on the morning itself.

A separate national demonstration by FGTB/ABVV and CSC/ACV is planned in Brussels on Friday 9 October, with its own transport disruption.
