Almería: Surbus urban bus indefinite strike from Tuesday 20 October 2026 (50% minimum services)
TodayLast Updated:
The roughly 190 workers of Surbus (Nex Continental Holdings, Alsa group), the operator of Almería's urban bus network, are on an indefinite strike from 01:00 on Tuesday 20 October 2026. The strike was called by the company's works council, which filed the notice on 9 October; it began as planned on 20 October.
What to expect
The Andalusian government has set minimum services at 50% of normal bus service across the network, with essential trips such as hospital routes guaranteed; workshop, administration and inspection staff are kept at the minimum needed to run them. The city council has asked residents to plan ahead and consider alternatives such as the municipal bike scheme or car-sharing, and has asked the University of Almería and Torrecárdenas hospital for flexibility on timetables and exams. The urban bus is the city's only collective public transport, so the other 50% of trips will be missing until the dispute is settled. Workers have announced protests, including a march on 26 October.
Why
The works council is demanding a new collective agreement with what it calls fair pay and conditions. Surbus says the demands would add more than 5 million euros to its budget, has offered a 3.5% raise on account of a future agreement, and says it remains open to talks.
This alert was originally created on 20 October 2026.
