Madrid-Barajas: SATE baggage-system maintenance strike on five days a week until 30 September 2026 (ASC)

Members of the union Alternativa Social de Clase (ASC) employed by the maintenance contractors of the automated baggage handling system (SATE) at Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas — Outsmart Assistance and Totseriman — have been on a rolling strike since 12 March 2026.

Current pattern (to 30 September 2026):

  • Outsmart staff stop work on Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 05:00 to 07:00 and from 13:00 to 15:00, under the transport ministry's resolution of 16 July, in force from 18 July.
  • Totseriman staff stop on Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays in the same time bands, under the resolution of 25 June.
  • The ministry sets minimum services at 50% of the scheduled maintenance staff on each strike day.

What to expect: this is a maintenance strike, not a handling strike — flights are not cancelled because of it, but if a belt or sorter fails during a stoppage it is repaired more slowly, so baggage delivery can be slower at T4 and T1–T3 on strike days. Passengers should not need to change plans.

The ministry's orders run until 30 September 2026; the union has extended the action several times since March, and a new order for October would appear on the ministry's minimum-services page.
