Basque Country: Euskotren peak-hour strikes on 15, 17, 21 and 23 September 2026 (LAB)

Staff at Euskotren (Eusko Trenbideak – Ferrocarriles Vascos) are holding a series of two-hour stoppages at peak times in September 2026, called by the union LAB. The remaining dates are:

• Tuesday 15 and Thursday 17 September: 06:20–08:20 and 17:20–19:20
• Monday 21 and Wednesday 23 September: 07:50–09:50 and 18:50–20:50

Earlier stoppages took place on 7 and 9 September. The strike covers drivers, operations, line and station staff across all Euskotren workplaces, so the regional rail lines in Bizkaia and Gipuzkoa, line 3 of the Bilbao metro, the Bilbao and Vitoria-Gasteiz trams, the Larreineta funicular and Euskotren bus services can all be affected in those windows. The Basque Government has set minimum services at 30% of scheduled trains, trams and buses during the stoppages, with priority for lines without alternatives and for hospital-bound routes; services already under way when a stoppage begins complete their journey. Outside the two-hour windows, service is normal.

The dispute is about the annual service roster (PAS): the union wants it drawn up under the rules agreed with staff, in particular on consecutive working days, consecutive night shifts and the hardship of certain turns.
