Barcelona–El Prat: Groundforce ground-handling indefinite strike from 4 August 2026
TodayLast Updated:
CGT has called an indefinite strike by Groundforce ground-handling staff at Barcelona–El Prat Airport (Josep Tarradellas Barcelona–El Prat), starting at 00:00 on 4 August 2026. The action involves around 1,179 workers and covers ground assistance, check-in, passenger boarding and flight-coordination services.
CGT says the strike responds to the deterioration of occupational-health and risk-prevention conditions at the base, and to management's failure to address them.
Groundforce handles a number of airlines at Barcelona — including Air Europa, Air France, KLM, Lufthansa, Qatar Airways, Turkish Airlines, ITA Airways and Swiss — so disruption is concentrated on those carriers rather than the whole airport. Flight cancellations have already been reported, and Spain's Ministry of Transport has set minimum services by airline, route and day.
This alert was originally created on 5 August 2026.
