Catalonia: Metges de Catalunya calls doctors’ strike on 20 May 2026

Metges de Catalunya (MC) has called a one-day doctors' strike for 20 May 2026 across public and concertada health services in Catalonia, demanding better working conditions and safer staffing. This raises to 11 the strike days called since October 2025 in MC's ongoing dispute with the Catalan Health Department. Alongside the strike, MC launched the campaign "Ni un minut més" — asking doctors to stop voluntary additional activity (peonadas, extra patients, doubled shifts, optional guards beyond the strictly compulsory). Demands include parity of working hours with other professional groups, an end to mandatory 24-hour guards, adequate staffing, agenda planning with patient limits, real work-life conciliation, and a doctor-specific collective agreement.
