Ourense Provincial Firefighters begin indefinite strike over staffing and agreements

Firefighters at the Consorcio Provincial de Bombeiros de Ourense began an indefinite strike on 11 April 2026, called by CSIF, CIG and SIGBAL together with the works council.

The trigger was what the workforce described as repeated failures by the Deputación de Ourense to honour the agreement signed by both sides in 2024, which covered pay and staffing commitments. The dispute goes back further: similar shortages led to prolonged action in 2023.

Talks on 13 April ended without progress, and by 22 April the firefighters had taken the dispute to the courts while the Deputación stayed publicly silent. The strike drew attention across the province because it ran into the approach of the forest fire season, with the service already short-staffed.

Both sides met on 13 May 2026 to try to settle the conflict, a month into the strike. No settlement was announced publicly and there has been no further reporting on the dispute since.
