LNER stations: outsourced Gate Solutions staff strike on 16 October 2026 (King's Cross, York, Leeds, Newcastle, Doncaster, Edinburgh)

RMT members employed by Gate Solutions, the contractor that staffs ticket gates and customer-service points on the LNER contract, strike for 24 hours on Friday 16 October 2026 at London King's Cross, Doncaster, York, Leeds, Newcastle and Edinburgh Waverley. RMT says the workers are paid poverty wages for permanent work and should be brought in-house; the union has said further dates will follow.

What to expect: LNER trains run normally — this is not a train-crew strike. Ticket gates may be left open or staffed by managers, queues for assistance and information may be longer, and help boarding may be slower to arrange at the six stations.
