Metro Vancouver: possible Coast Mountain Bus Company bus and SeaBus strike from 23 September 2026 (ratification vote 21 September)

Bus operators, mechanics and SeaBus crews at Coast Mountain Bus Company, which runs most of Metro Vancouver's buses and the SeaBus for TransLink, vote on Monday 21 September 2026 on a tentative agreement reached on 12 September. Unifor Locals 111 and 2200 say that if members reject it, a full withdrawal of service begins at 00:01 on Wednesday 23 September — all CMBC buses, community shuttles and SeaBus would stop, with picket lines at depots.

What to expect

• The result of the online vote is released after voting closes on Monday evening. If the deal is ratified, no strike takes place.
• If it is rejected, the stoppage is open-ended and starts at midnight — plan alternatives for Wednesday morning.
• Not affected: SkyTrain, West Coast Express, HandyDART and West Vancouver's Blue Bus, which are run by other operators.

Why

Bargaining began in February; 99% of members voted for strike action in May, and operators ran a job action (full recovery breaks at route ends) from 2 to 12 September until the tentative deal was reached with a mediator. The bargaining committee unanimously recommends the agreement, which the employer calls its best and final offer; its main change is a new letter of understanding on running times, recovery breaks and electronic service sheets.
