León province: interurban bus strikes on nine days from 30 October to 30 December 2026 (UGT and CCOO)
TomorrowLast Updated:
The unions UGT and CCOO have called the roughly 450 workers of León province's interurban bus services to nine 24-hour strikes: Friday 30 October; 2, 11 and 24 November; and 4, 8, 9, 23 and 30 December 2026. The call covers all interurban lines in the province under the provincial collective agreement; the city buses of León are not part of it.
What to expect: the Junta de Castilla y León has set minimum services for each strike day. Routes shared with school transport run in full and dedicated school routes keep a driver on school days; services for people with disabilities, care homes, special-education centres and prisons run normally. On the regular lines a minimum number of return trips is guaranteed in the busiest bands (07:00–10:00, 13:30–16:00 and 18:00–21:00), commuter routes within 10 km of León keep up to 50% of trips, and the rest of the day runs at a minimum of 10% with at least one return trip. Operators must tell passengers which trips run.
Why: talks on the provincial collective agreement are blocked after thirteen meetings and a failed session at the regional mediation service SERLA. The unions say León's drivers are among the worst paid in Castilla y León — about 19,000 euros gross a year, 5,000 less than in Zamora and up to 8,000 less than in Asturias — and work shifts of up to 15 hours of driving and stand-by time with too little rest. They ask for a minimum of 24,000 euros a year by the end of a three-year agreement, regulated hours and rest, protection against assaults, early-retirement coefficients and life insurance, and want the public funding the Junta gives the sector to reach the workers.
