Murcia Region: bus and tram strike every Thursday in October 2026 (8, 15, 22 and 29 October)
In 7 daysLast Updated:
Public transport workers in the Region of Murcia will strike for 24 hours on four Thursdays — 8, 15, 22 and 29 October 2026 — after the latest talks between the unions' joint committee (UGT, CCOO and USO) and the employers' association Froet broke down. The call was announced on 21 September.
What to expect: urban buses in Murcia, Cartagena, Molina de Segura, Santomera, Beniel and Lorca, interurban routes of under 20 km and the Murcia tram run only the minimum services set by the regional government and Murcia city council, which have not yet been published; on the September strike days they were 60% of services at peak times and 40% off-peak, with waits of more than half an hour. Protests are planned at the regional infrastructure department on 8 and 22 October and at Murcia city hall on 15 and 29 October.
Why: the unions want the sector agreement to guarantee an annual work calendar fixing rest days, public holidays and shifts so drivers can plan their lives, and the same conditions across all operators before the region's transport contracts are re-tendered. The dispute already produced strike days on 10–11 September and a call for 14–15 September that was lifted after a commitment from Murcia city council; the committee says that commitment has not been honoured.
This alert was originally created on 1 October 2026.
